The upcoming theatrical feature Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Movie: Bōhi no Hihō (The Apothecary Diaries Movie: The Deceased Consort's Hidden Treasure) has expanded its cast roster and dropped an intense new character PV focusing on the notorious Kaje Pirates. Adapted from Natsu Hyuuga's smash-hit light novel series published by Imagica Infos under the Hero Bunko imprint, the franchise continues its sweeping cultural momentum following the massive success of its television anime adaptation.
This cinematic outing features an entirely original storyline penned by author Natsu Hyuuga. The plot follows the brilliant poison-taster Maomao and the influential eunuch/court official Jinshi as they journey south to the watery metropolis of Minanshu upon the Emperor's decree. Their mission: to return the mortal remains of a consort who perished in the inner court five years prior. However, upon arrival, they stumble upon a volatile power struggle centered around a legendary treasure hidden by the late former pirate leader, Kaje.
The newly unveiled character PV showcases the formidable Kaje Pirates as they descend upon Maomao and her companions. Alongside this footage, key voice casting additions have been confirmed for the film's original factions. Kensho Ono steps into the role of Mizuha, the sharp-witted leader of the Kaje Pirates who aggressively seeks the hidden fortune. Ono shared his enthusiasm for joining the cinematic project, noting his character's cunning intellect and encouraging audiences to anticipate how Mizuha's motivations intertwine with the unfolding mystery.
Rounding out the pirate ranks, Ryota Takeuchi has been cast as Eisho, the fiercely loyal subordinate to Mizuha, while Jiro Saito voices Kaje, the deceased former leader whose legacy sparks the southern expedition. The film reunites key creative talents under animation studio TOHO animation STUDIO, with Norihiro Noguma directing and an accomplished musical score composed by Satoru Kōsaki, Kevin Penkin, and Alisa Okehazama.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Movie: Bōhi no Hihō is scheduled to hit theaters across Japan on December 11, 2026, distributed by Toho.
