Osamu Akimoto's legendary comedic manga Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen-mae Hashutsujo, affectionately known as Kochikame, is officially making its grand return to television animation. During a special live-streamed presentation held at Asakusa Kagegekijou on September 5, producers pulled back the curtain on the upcoming 2027 series, revealing the new core voice cast and promotional visuals that set the stage for the chaotic revival.
The New Generation of Kameari
Stepping into the iconic boots of the tireless, scheme-plotting protagonist Kankichi Ryotsu is Tomokazu Ochiai, who expressed deep emotional ties to the franchise of his childhood. Joining him in the Kameari precinct are Shouta Aoi as the wealthy and suave Keiichi Nakagawa, M·A·O as the refined and capable Reiko Akimoto, and Yorimitsu Sakamoto as the perpetually exasperated Chief Daijiro Ohara. The cast announcement event embraced the series' trademark eccentric humor, featuring Ochiai arriving on stage riding Asakusa Hanayashiki's famous panda car.

The newly unveiled cast members shared insights into the recording process, noting that the studio environment was fueled by an immense collective passion for Akimoto's enduring work. Ochiai described voicing Ryotsu as an intense physical undertaking, noting that the character operates at a constant 150 to 160 percent energy output. Despite the vocal strain, the actors emphasized the warm, pseudo-familial dynamic shared among the precinct characters, promising a modern comedic rhythm tailored for contemporary audiences while preserving the timeless charm of the original neighborhood antics.
