The domestic landscape for printed manga continues to demonstrate robust momentum, anchored by powerhouse titles and enduring reader loyalty. According to Circana BookScan's sales data for August, the publishing phenomenon Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami claimed multiple high-ranking positions, with its inaugural volume surging to the #2 spot on the Top 20 adult graphic novels chart.
Altogether, 16 out of the 20 positions on the August chart were occupied by manga releases, underlining the medium's dominant market share in North American bookstores, mass-market chains, and online retail outlets. Notably, Takeru Hokazono's breakout sensation Kagurabachi continued its impressive commercial run by capturing the #3 position with its eighth volume, while other major contemporary hits like Mokumokuren's The Summer Hikaru Died and Kei Urana's Gachiakuta also carved out strong placements.
Extended Market Performance
Circana BookScan tracks weekly point-of-sale data gathered from more than 16,000 distinct retail locations across the United States, capturing approximately 85% of the total trade print book market. The enduring presence of early volumes—such as the original entries for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Chainsaw Man—points to continuous onboarding of fresh readership through bookstore channels rather than strictly collector-driven demand for newest releases.
