Game Freak has officially pulled back the curtain on its brand-new mobile project, Ame nochi Hare Onna (Girl After the Rain). Scheduled for a winter release on iOS and Android devices in Japan, the title introduces a colorful roster of magical girls powered by meteorological phenomena and traditional divine messengers known as Kumorin.
The announcement arrived alongside a debut teaser trailer showcasing the game's vibrant aesthetic and character designs. Veteran director and producer Shigeru Oomori, known for his work on the Pokémon franchise and Pokémon Pokopia, is spearheading the project in collaboration with developer CHRONOGATE. Legendary artist Ken Sugimori also contributed to the production by designing the mysterious "Machine Sentakki" truck that aids the protagonists.
Magical Girls and Divine Partners
The core narrative revolves around Hare-onna (Sunny Girl) magical girls who transform atmospheric energy into uplifting power. The main protagonist, Himawari Harewatari, will be voiced by Hiyori Kōno and features character designs by Aki Minamino. Her raccoon dog companion, Pon Arai, is voiced by Yuki Nagano with designs by Kyōko Abe.
Additional magical girl duos rounding out the cast include Yūri Amanohara (voiced by Mirika Kawa) alongside her fox partner Kon Oribe (voiced by Ayaka Fujimoto), and Izu Shinotsuki (voiced by Chinatsu Hirose) paired with her mouse partner Chuchu Yumekawa (voiced by Momoka Tsuji).
Real-Time Weather Integration
Operating under the thematic tagline, "Tomorrow's weather will become magic," the title features an innovative gameplay system linked directly to live meteorological data across Japan. By integrating real-time weather forecasts, the developers aim to deliver a dynamic experience that shifts daily based on actual atmospheric conditions.
As Game Freak continues to expand its portfolio beyond traditional console mainstays—following recent releases such as Beast of Reincarnation—this mobile venture showcases an intriguing creative direction for the studio.
