Thirty-five years after its debut, Kyoko Hikawa's seminal shojo fantasy manga From Far Away (Kanata kara) has officially returned to the spotlight with a television anime adaptation. Produced by Studio Deen and helmed by veteran director Noriyuki Abe, the series brings to life one of the foundational classics of late 20th-century isekai storytelling. Originally serialized in Hakusensha's LaLa magazine from 1991 to 2002, the 14-volume manga earned the prestigious Seiun Award in 2004 and accumulated over 4 million copies in circulation.
A Classic Fantasy Legacy
The story follows high schooler Noriko Tachiki, who finds herself transported into a hazardous foreign world after a sudden explosion. Upon arriving, she encounters Izark Kia Taji, a wandering warrior burdened with a dark destiny. Unbeknownst to Noriko, the world's ancient prophecies designate her as the 'Awakener'—a figure capable of rousing the destructive 'Sky Demon' sealed within Izark. The series explores their evolving bond as they navigate political conflict and language barriers across treacherous lands.
