Karaoke culture holds a treasured space in the hearts of anime fans worldwide. Whether it is nailing the high notes of an iconic opening or executing synchronized choreography with a room full of friends, anime songs remain a staple of late-night gatherings. To celebrate Karaoke Culture Day in Japan, the pop-culture media outlet Anime! Anime! published the results of its annual reader survey asking participants to name the ultimate anime karaoke anthems.
Taking the top spot for an incredible seventh consecutive year is Yoko Takahashi's timeless masterpiece "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Capturing roughly eight percent of the total vote, the 1995 opening theme continues to transcend generations. Respondents noted its immediate cultural ubiquity and the sheer ease with which even casual viewers can join in the chorus. Following closely in second place was Mrs. GREEN APPLE's upbeat track "Lilac" from Boukyaku Battery, which recently took home top honors at the Japan Record Awards. Meanwhile, Kenshi Yonezu's "IRIS OUT" from Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc secured third place, bolstered by the viral dance choreography associated with the theatrical release.
