The alternate-history political mecha epic is preparing for its next major evolutionary step. Bandai Namco Filmworks and studio Sunrise have officially confirmed that a brand-new Code Geass anime production is underway, slated for a broadcast and theatrical window in 2027. Alongside the announcement, production staff debuted the project's very first promotional teaser trailer, signaling that the sprawling timeline of Britannia and the Black Knights remains far from concluded.
Expanding the Geass Universe
Originally premiering in autumn 2006 under the visionary direction of Goro Taniguchi and head writer Ichiro Okouchi, with distinct character drafts penned by manga collective CLAMP, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion remains one of the defining original mecha franchises of the 21st century. The narrative masterclass followed exiled prince Lelouch vi Britannia as he adopted the masked persona of Zero, mobilizing rebellion through tactical genius and the absolute obedience command of his Geass ocular power.
The upcoming 2027 project builds directly upon Sunrise's concerted push to expand the broader cinematic continuity. Following the 2019 alternate-timeline continuation Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, the franchise most recently captivated global audiences with the four-part theatrical and streaming release Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture (Dakkan no Rozé). With the 2027 premiere marking another milestone chapter, Sunrise continues to balance Knightmare Frame combat choreography with complex, high-stakes geopolitical intrigue.
