The multimedia rock franchise BanG Dream! has released an official cover of the legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion theme song, “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” (Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis), performed by Doloris from the gothic theatrical unit Ave Mujica. Originally composed by Neko Oikawa and Hidetoshi Sato and immortalized by Yoko Takahashi, the track has long stood as an anthem of modern pop culture, previously receiving a distinct performance by fellow franchise group Roselia.

Roadmap to 2027
The release follows the broadcast of Ave Mujica: The Die is Cast, animated by studio Sanzigen and directed by Kodai Kakimoto during the Winter 2025 broadcast window. The project has laid out a multi-year narrative trajectory, beginning with an upcoming theatrical film scheduled for release on October 16, which picks up the narrative six months after the group’s staged return. A full television anime sequel is slated to air in January 2027.
