October 16th marks Boss's Day, an observance originally established in the United States in 1958 to foster positive relationships between employers and employees. Within pop culture and serialized media, however, the concept of a 'boss' instantly invokes the imposing figures who stand squarely in the path of the protagonist.
Particularly during a narrative's climax, the ultimate antagonist commands immense gravity and presence. These formidable figures often rival—and occasionally surpass—the main cast in sheer popularity, defining the emotional and tactical peak of their respective stories. Capitalizing on this enduring fascination, industry outlet Anime! Anime! has officially launched its annual reader survey titled 'Which Character Comes to Mind as the Ultimate Final Boss?'
The open-ended poll welcomes submissions celebrating memorable overarching villains from across 2D media, spanning broadcast television, theatrical features, streaming originals, OVAs, video games, drama CDs, and manga serializations. Voting remains open through October 9th, with the compiled results slated for publication following the close of the response window.
